World Record Broken!

Friday, September 11, 2015 - Posted by Spence

On the 4th and 5th of September 2015 Jamie Barnett and Len Granger set a new world record for the Worlds Longest Squash Match.  The guys smashed the previous record by 3 hours  playing for 38 hours at Barnt Green.

The match started at 7:00am on Friday the 4th and finished at 9:00pm Saturday 5th under the cheering crowd of family, friends, members and others who came to support.  The whole 38 hours also drew viewers from all over the world due to Steve Feeney streaming the match live via youtube.

Can we say a massive thank you to everyone who's supported Len and I over the duration of our record, ew never imagined there'd be more than 2 or 3 people and perhaps a random camel, a frog and a rabbit on the balcony to support us at any one time. The atmosphere at the club was absolutely electric and right through, from 7am on Friday morning and even 3-4am on Saturday morning there was quite a crowd willing us on and making sure we were well serviced in the breaks. We never envisaged any of that, just though it would be me, Len with a bottle of water a banana. Incredible.

This support really carried us through, particularly through the night and the last few hours when we were both ready to curl up and die.

Also want to thank everyone who stepped up as witnesses, stewards, referees and Steve Feeney on the camera. The record wouldn't happen without those "professional" people giving up their time to validate the record. These people made the record. It ran like clockwork; everyone turned up when they were supposed to turn up, everyone signed what they needed to sign, everyone supported.

Donations are still coming in and money is still being counted but so far we have come some way to buying St Paul's Hostel their new van and at the same time raising funds for Hospice UK.

For anyone else still intending to donate you can do so at:

www.justgiving.com/len-granger

We have spent the last few days reading through the messages of support that have come in from everybody during and after the event and it's just unbelievable. There are people there that I haven't seen for 25 years (from school) others I don't even know but have still offered their support and donated. Just brilliant. Thank you.

I didn't know the match was going live on YouTube, so without communicating it beforehand we got up to 400 viewers at one point. Even in the middle of the night there were around 100 people watching it. Obviously a few people who suffer from insomnia and had run out of Nitol! It was even being played live at a random night club in Hereford. Unbelievable!

And to top it off we got re-tweeted by Ricky Ross (lead singer of my favourite band in the world ever but we won't dwell on it) and Ben Foster. That really made our day!

Anyway, hopefully we'll find the time to thank each and everyone who have supported our world record attempt but in the meantime just want to say....

Yeeeeeehoooooooooooooooo!
