~~~~ Saturday 6th July ~~~~
Roy, who was a very well-known and highly respected member of Stourbridge, joined the Club some 40 years ago. Roy joined to play tennis and with his strong left arm and fast movement proved a very difficult player to beat in the tennis singles leagues and club tournament. He then turned to squash which became his foremost sport and in which he excelled. Roy played for Stourbridge for many years and ultimately, winning the National Veterans Singles Championship in his sixties. Later, Roy developed into a keen racketball player and regularly used the gym to enhance his mobility and strength. Sadly, whilst playing Racketball last year, Roy collapsed on court. Despite the efforts of first aid staff and paramedics Roy passed a few days later in hospital. In celebration of Roy's life the club have decided to hold an annual tournament in his name. Following on from the tournament we will be hosting a BBQ on the balcony alongside the Tennis finals, a sport Roy also excelled in. ~~~~ Tournament ~~~~ The tournament is run over 1 day - Saturday 6th July. Draws will be limited to the following capacity: A Grade - 8 B Grade - 16 C Grade - 16 Matches will be best of 3, first to 15 Guaranteed 3 matches If demand is high we will tinker with expanding the grades!! ~~~ Food & Drink ~~~ The bar and catering staff will be around all day as the event is running during the club Open Day and Tennis Finals Weekend ~~~~ Finals ~~~~ We will try and get the finals to commence from 5pm, but this may be subject to change during the scheduling ~~~ Entering ~~~ Entry fee - £20 Includes a tournament tshirt Guaranteed 3 matches ~~~ Prizes ~~~ There will be no prizes for the event. All proceeds to the tournament will be donated to the Chris Westwood Charity for Children with Physical Disabilities and Starlight Children's Foundation Any questions get in touch |
